Real Mom
Today I feel like a Real Mom. Today I know what my job is and I’m doing it (fairly well).
One of the kids (the young one) has the sniffles and a cough so I kept her home from school. Then I kicked in to Real Mom Mode. The two of us stayed snuggled in bed while everyone else got ready for school (it was the day that the middle child would decide to sing her favorite new song AS LOUD AS SHE FUCKING COULD all morning). Once the house was quiet I made the breakfast of the young one’s choice: sunny side up eggs with some pumpkin bread with pumpkin butter. I delivered it on one of those breakfast in bed trays, but was so relieved when my lovely (but messy as hell) daughter decided on her own that breakfast in bed could be on the floor in front of the bed. Better for her to watch TV. The other thing I knew a Real Mom might provide on a sick day: Mind Numbing TV. All the PBS the kid has to miss now that she’s part of the world that goes someplace else for at least a few hours every day.
We are both still in our pajamas. We are both now laying in bed. On our 4th PBS show. The little one tells me every hour that she still has a cough and stuff coming out of her nose therefore she is still sick. So I get to keep being a Real Mom. In a little while I’m going to get out of the sick bed, give the child a bell to ring in case she needs anything (I saw that on Brady Bunch–the episode when the kids had the chicken pox, I think), and I will make chicken soup (from a chicken!).
I love when I know what I should do and can do it.

hope she feels better soon. what a good day

I’m sick too. Can I have some pumpkin bread with pumpkin butter? It would make me feel soooo much better.

mmmm….pumpkin bread…
so - what’s the middle monster’s favorite song?
Chicken Butt has taken a liking to a certain Tori Amos song that I now have to put on the “censored” list… I’m such a bad mom.

I don’t know what the hell the middle child was singing…probably Spider Pig from The Simpson’s Movie. It was just LOUD and over and over!

you are always such a Real Mom.
My mom used to give me a bell, too. I had strep throat for like a year straight, so there was lots of bell ringin’.
missin you,
mb
